米下院の軍事委員会と外交委員会の委員長は22日、米国の偵察機がロシア上空を飛行するのを可能にする国際条約から離脱することをトランプ大統領が決めたことに強く反発した。
トランプ氏は21日、米政府が領空開放（オープンスカイズ、ＯＳＴ）条約からの脱退の準備を進めていることを発表した。ほぼ20年前に締結されたこの条約は、十数カ国がそれぞれの領空を非武装の偵察機が飛行するのを可能にしたものだ。しかし、順守されておらず、もはや米国の国益になっていないと批判されてきた。
民主党のアダム・スミス（ワシントン州）、エリオット・エンゲル（ニューヨーク州）下院議員はトランプ氏への書簡で「領空開放条約は、透明性のある、具体的で、共有可能で、公開された情報を提供することで、大西洋を越えて安全を促進する点で重要な役割を果たしてきた。米国の欧州での安全保障への関与をアピールし、全体的にはロシアの説明責任を果たさせるという意味で非常に重要だ」と主張した。・・・
