米国の主要敵対国はすでに、バイデン新政権が同盟国やその価値観をどの程度守る気があるのかを試そうとしている。
バイデン大統領が就任するほんの数日前の週末、中国は台湾への軍事的圧力を大幅に強化した。一方、ロシア政府は、反政府活動指導者の拘束をめぐる抗議デモによる国内の政治危機に米国が干渉しているとして、強く反発した。
バイデン氏が指名した国家安全保障、外交の高官候補らの承認は今後進められ、民主党政権はまず、新型コロナウイルス、不安定な米経済など身近な問題に専念したい意向だ。
中国の専門家ゴードン・チャン氏は24日、ＦＯＸニュースで、「中国は発足したばかりの米政権を試している」と指摘、ブッシュ政権が発足したばかりの2001年に中国の戦闘機と海軍の偵察機が空中衝突した事件に言及した。
ロシアのモスクワなど100以上の都市で発生した反政府指導者アレクセイ・ナワリヌイ氏支持のデモへの政府の対応を西側諸国が非難したことに、プーチン大統領の報道官が強く反発した。
